Transparent Language Online is the latest addition to the Transparent range of language learning products.  Recently I took the Hebrew Online course for a test drive and I have to say I was very impressed with the overall content of the program, the learning methods and the learning tools and resources.

One of the things that I really like about this course is the balance between learning to speak Hebrew, and how to read and write in Hebrew. While the main focus is on speaking there is also a strong focus on the written word, and when learning a language such as Hebrew, which does not use a Latin aplhabet, an understanding of the written word is essential.

The learning interface has a nice feel to it, it’s easy to navigate and very intuitive. The program itself employs some great learning features such as Flash cards, speech recognition and recording tools, voice analysis tools and Hebrew writing keyboards

This course is ideal for beginners, or for those who want to refresh or improve upon previous learning. It gives you everything you will need to learn Hebrew to an intermediate proficiency. (You will also learn some advanced learning points along the way) Start your  free 7-Day trial today

So let’s look at what you will learn and how you will learn using the Transparent language Online Hebrew course:

Section 3 – Byki Vocabulary

The Byki Vocabulary section is where you go when you finish the Essentials section and the Byki Quick start section. Byki Vocabulary builds and adds to what you have already learned, and provides one of the most extensive collections of Vocabulary that I have ever seen in an online self-study course or software language program. Certainly too much to list here.

In this section you will find the vocabulary you need for nearly every situation; learn words and phrases for when you are in a restaurant, when meeting and greeting, musical instruments, nature, travel, Kitchens, cardinal numbers, parts of the body, and this is just the tip of this vocabulary ice burg that you will find in this section.

As with the other core areas of the course, the Byki Vocabulary section has a step-by-step learning path with sequential learning phases / activities. (Samelearning  phases / activities as Byki Quick Start section) Take a free 7-Day trial today

Ok we have looked at the three core areas of the course, now let’s peek at the last two sections.

Section 4 – Learned Items – The learned Items section allows you to track your progress through the course. This is an essential tool in any self-study course, which enables you to track what you have learned, identify areas that you need to complete or re-address.

Each learned item is classified as "fresh" (meaning that you have practiced it recently or mastered it through repeated practice and encounters) or "stale" (meaning that it may be at risk of being forgotten).

Section 5 – Hebrew Reference – This section allows you to explore an assortment of useful reference tools to help you better understand the background of the language and detailed learning points about Grammar and the alphabet.

Within this section, you will find some advanced and detailed learning points, which you can use to help you truly master what you are learning.

If you don’t have enough already!

As well as having a complete learning program, the Transparent online course also provides you with additional resources, which you can use to compliment and further your learning.
  • Language and Culture blog – Well is speaks for itself. However, this section of the program is very thin on content.
  • Word of the day – Allows you to learn a New Hebrew word every day (When learning a new language every new word counts)
  • Hebrew communities – From here you can connect get social and intertact with Transparent language communities on face book. (This can be a great way to complete your learning, if you can get to meet native speakers)
  • Mobile apps – Mobile allows you to take Transparent Language Online learning "on the go" with your Apple® iPad™, iPhone™, iPod™ touch, or Android powered device. There is no charge. All you need is Byki for iPhone Community Edition, which is FREE on the App Store and the Android Market.

Course information and pricing:

With the Transparent online course, you can choose between a 6-month option and a 12-month option. The only difference between the two is the amount of time you have to complete the course. There is no content in 12-month option that is not contained within the 6-month option.

You have the option to take a 7-day (no obligations) free trial.  This allows you to check-out the course and take it for a test drive, which will will help you determine how much time you think is needed for you to master the course. There is lots of content to cover, so the lenght of time needed will depend on your ability to learn and how much time you can dedicate to learning.

  • The 6 month course costs – $149.95
  • The 12 month course costs – $199.96
In my opinion you will not truly master all that is contained within this course in 6 months if you are a complete beginner. But if mastering the language (to what I would consider an intermediate level) is not so important to you, and you are just looking to gain a very comprehensive understanding of Hebrew then the 6 month course will be perfect.

**********Transparent Langauge online courses come with a 6 month satisfaction guarantee*************

Help & Support:

You can avail of technical assistance between the hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern Standard Time, Monday to Friday. You can submit a support form or you can use a Transparent comprehensive FAQ section, which should be able to answer most of the questions that you might have.

Some Pro’s and Con’s..

Cons:

  • Price – While I understand the thinking behind the price points, I would prefer if the 12-month option provided you with more advanced learning and had additional content than that of the 6-month course.  However, the prices are competitive when you consider the quality of the course and the sheer amount of knowledge that it puts at your fingertips.
  • Not much in the way of cultural learning – While this course provides you will all you need to learn Hebrew there is no real learning about Israeli culture and society. The “language and culture blog” has very little content and does not offer much in the way of up to date news or information.
  • The adjust sound feature – This allows you to slow down the speed of the words that you hear, which is  useful when trying to hear the nuances of pronunciation. However, when using this feature the sound is played back too slow and the words becomes more dragged than slowed.
Pros:

  • Lots of content – way more than I have a come across in any other self-study online Hebrew course
  • Great learning tools such as – Progress tracking tools, the audio tools and voice recognition tools.
  • Step by step and intuitive learning process that really does force you to learn the language, but in a fun way!
  • PDF download – You have the option to download each lesson’s vocabulary into PDF format, very handing for those occasions when you will not have an internet connection.
  • 7- Day free trial – No obligations trial all that is required is your email to register.
